Software Engineer, Technical Leadership – Supply Chain Optimization and Capacity
Company: Meta
Location: Remote / Various Meta Data Center Locations
Job Type: Full-Time
Experience Level: Senior / Technical Leadership (12+ Years)
Category: Software Engineering / Operations Research / Infrastructure
Role Overview
Meta is seeking an experienced Software Engineer, Technical Leadership to lead the technical strategy for production systems that model, optimize, and automate Meta’s infrastructure supply chain and capacity planning. Meta’s infrastructure supply chain is one of the most complex planning and fulfillment systems in the world, spanning demand, supply, inventory, manufacturing constraints, logistics, data center capacity, hardware availability, regionalization, cost, and risk.
This role will build the next generation of decision systems for infrastructure supply chain and capacity fulfillment. The ideal candidate combines deep software engineering and systems design experience with strong operations research, optimization, and supply-chain modeling expertise. You will translate mathematical models and decision frameworks into reliable, explainable, production-grade platforms that help Meta deliver the right capacity, in the right place, at the right time, while improving predictability and minimizing waste.
As a senior individual contributor, you will set multi-year technical direction, partner deeply across Engineering, Data Science, Product, Finance, and Operations teams, and influence executive-level decisions in a high-scale, business-critical domain.
Key Responsibilities
-
Technical Strategy: Define and drive the multi-year technical strategy for supply-chain optimization, capacity planning, and fulfillment decision systems across Meta’s global infrastructure.
-
Platform Architecture: Architect production platforms connecting demand, supply, inventory, manufacturing capacity, logistics, regionalization, cost, and risk into reliable planning and execution workflows.
-
Model Translation: Translate operations research models, optimization algorithms, simulations, and planning heuristics into scalable, maintainable, explainable, and auditable software systems.
-
Solver & Simulation Systems: Lead the design and evolution of solver-backed and simulation-backed systems for inventory placement, supply allocation, capacity fulfillment, manufacturing feasibility, network design, and scenario planning.
-
Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with Data Science, Data Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, and Infrastructure teams to build trusted single sources of truth, improve forecast accuracy, and operationalize planning assumptions.
-
Business Impact: Identify high-leverage opportunities to reduce stranded capacity, improve on-time delivery, accelerate fulfillment, reduce manual planning cycles, and increase executive decision confidence.
-
Engineering Standards: Establish engineering patterns, model governance, validation frameworks, and operational standards for decision systems used in high-stakes planning workflows.
-
Mentorship & Leadership: Mentor and raise the technical bar for senior engineers working on optimization, planning systems, data quality, and workflow automation.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
-
12+ years of experience setting technical direction for large-scale software systems across multiple teams or organizations.
-
10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production software systems in complex, cross-functional domains.
-
Proven experience with operations research, mathematical optimization, simulation, forecasting, or decision-support systems.
-
Applied experience with optimization or modeling techniques in supply chain, logistics, capacity planning, inventory, or infrastructure planning.
-
Proven track record translating analytical models into production-grade systems with robust monitoring, validation, and explainability.
-
Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages (e.g., C++, Java, Python, Hack, Go, Rust).
-
Strong experience influencing executive and senior technical stakeholders through written strategy and architectural reviews.
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Prior experience operating at Staff, Principal, Distinguished, or equivalent technical leadership level.
-
Hands-on experience with solver technologies and modeling frameworks (e.g., Gurobi, OR-Tools, Xpress, CPLEX, Pyomo, custom solvers, or discrete-event simulation).
-
Depth in methods such as Mixed-Integer Programming (MIP), Linear Programming (LP), Constraint Programming, Network Flow, Facility Location, Bin Packing, or Stochastic Optimization.
-
Experience building infrastructure capacity planning systems, cloud capacity platforms, hardware supply chain tools, or GPU/accelerator allocation engines.
-
Experience designing human-in-the-loop planning systems and “what-if” scenario simulation engines for operational teams.
-
Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
